MatLink is an enhanced matrix representation to improve matrices readability for path-related tasks. These tasks are important in social networks analysis to study how actors are connected.
We performed a controlled experiment to compare MatLink with matrices and node-link diagrams. We designed a 3x6x5 within-subject experiment, comparing the 3 visualizations of 6 social networks asking subjects to complete 5 different tasks for each.
NodeTrix is a representation merging node-link diagrams and matrices. It is particularly suited for small-world networks, which are globally sparse.
